Duke EV Overnight Rates

So I recently bought an EV, and while you may not get the $7,500 discount anymore… Many utility companies provide discounts if you have an EV.

My current provider, Duke Energy, actually provides a few benefits.

The first one I discovered is a ‘Charger Prep’ incentive. Which covers costs of ‘Conduit, Wiring, Outlet, Panel Upgrades, and Breaker Installation’ if you own or lease an EV and are installing a Level 2 Charger.

However, today I discovered that they also have a special Overnight EV rate that gives you a 50% discount on your normal rate during 11 PM - 5 AM in return for every so slightly raising your non-discount rate.

My first thought was ‘Will I actually save money with this’, and didn’t feel like doing the math. As such, I decided to quickly whip together a vibe-coded project (Thanks Claude) to parse your Duke Energy data locally in your browser and see if you’d benefit. In my case, I would actually save money even without an EV charging overnight. With one charging, it’s even more!

If you are interested in checking it out, here is the project on GitHub and the actual tool you can use!
